Fine Arts, Latin, & Musical Study

At Cornerstone Preparatory Academy we believe the study of the fine arts is essential to a well-rounded education. Our approach to the teaching of fine arts can be described as ordered and rational pursuits that train a student's powers of observation, concentration, and creativity. While the arts provides opportunity for self-expression, we teach students that self-expression is not the ultimate purpose of the study of the arts.

Latin
Latin is considered foundational study in classical schools. While some may consider Latin a "dead" language, since it is no longer used in the vernacular, at Cornerstone Preparatory we recognize the importance of Latin language study.
Latin is still the language of scientific and medical nomenclature, and law.
The vocabulary of many modern languages, particularly English and the Romance languages, has a direct and significant root in Latin.
Latin was the language of the Roman Empire and Early Catholic Church, and it is crucial for understanding the history law, and philosophy that shaped Western society.
Musical Study
Music is seen as a way to appreciate truth, goodness, and beauty, and it connects to other subjects like science, math, and history through its structure and cultural context. The study of music is an excellent way for students to encounter and understand themes of beauty and excellence in learning. It trains students to listen attentively and recognize patterns and meaning.
Music aids literacy by helping students develop memory and listening skills. Music theory is related to mathematical concepts like ratios and fractions, and it's even connected to science, as sound waves are studied through music in the science of physics.

At Cornerstone Preparatory Academy, music is included as a core component of classical study. Students will explore creativity through musical theory, composition, choral, and instruments.
