Classical Education
At Cornerstone Preparatory Academy, we believe that education is not just about preparing for a career, it’s about cultivating wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of learning. Our Classical Education model revives time-tested methods of teaching that have shaped great thinkers and leaders for centuries. It is rooted in the belief that children learn best when instruction is intentionally matched to their natural stages of development and when education nurtures both the mind and the heart.
The Trivium: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric
The word Trivium comes from Latin, meaning “the place where three paths meet.”
In a classical education, those paths represent the three arts of learning — Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric — which together guide students as they grow in both knowledge and wisdom.
At Cornerstone Preparatory Academy, we see the Trivium as a natural journey of learning. In the Grammar Stage, children build the foundations of knowledge — learning language, facts, and patterns that form the building blocks for future understanding. In the Logic Stage, students begin to ask questions, make connections, and develop reasoning skills as they explore how ideas fit together. Finally, in the Rhetoric Stage, they learn to communicate truth with clarity, confidence, and grace — expressing what they know in thoughtful and persuasive ways.
Each stage of the Trivium helps students learn not just what to think, but how to think, cultivating both intellectual excellence and virtuous character.
